Each week we will present a run down of highlights of what will be going on at Churchill Estates Retirement Community in the coming week. The rain returned to Eugene this weekend, in what one resident referred to as “Oregon finding herself”, the rains fell and look to keep falling over the next couple of days. Fall has its grip on the Willamette Valley now, as the temperatures will be in the low to mid 50’s most of the week.
In a place where “it never rains” precipitation filled the air as the Oregon Ducks downed the Cal Bears 41-28 Saturday night in a packed (Animal) house at Autzen. Led by Vernon Adams Jr, who threw for 300 yards, 4 touchdowns and added 43 more yards and another touchdown on the ground, the Ducks set a school record with 777 yards of offense. Royce Freeman carried the ball 29 times for 180 yards; Tony Brooks-James also crossed the century mark carrying the ball 7 times for 101 yards. The defense gave Cal’s highly rated quarterback fits, as they forced 6 punts and sealed the victory with an interception. Oregon hopes to keep their three-game winning streak alive as they travel to the Farm this weekend to play Stanford.
The Oregon Women’s basketball team is just about ready to get their season started, but first they are taking their time to give some adults the experience of playing for Coach Graves. The Ducks are hosting an Adult Basketball Camp tomorrow night at Matt Knight Arena, attendees will be run through drills, and also get a chance to play on the main court at Matt Night. (For more information click the button below.)
On Wednesday night Oregon will play their only exhibition game this year as Warner Pacific visits Matt Knight at 6:00 PM. It will be the first real look at the Ducks as they enter year two under Coach Kelly Graves, new faces litter the roster as only five players from last year return. This weekend Graves takes his team back east for their first game of the season as they will be in Chapel Hill taking on the Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina.
We start off this week at Churchill Estates with a salute to our veterans. Our Veteran’s Day program will be this afternoon. The Memory Tones will provide the entertainment for our residents as we celebrate those who helped keep our country free, and served in the military. If you haven't already, take a moment to read about the experience of one of our residents as he participated in one of the Honor Flights back to Washington D.C.
Wednesday, we will embark on our weekly grocery-shopping trip. This week we will be roaming the isles, looking for some good food and snacks. Thursday is our monthly birthday party. We will welcome the Big Foot Lane band to Churchill as they will play some music and entertain our residents. Stop by and get some cake and juice! Friday we finish the week with Reader’s Theatre and Stan playing his accordion.
All in all it’s a great week to be at Churchill Estates Retirement Community, come join the fun, and Go Ducks!
