While prayers of thanks and thanksgiving ceremonies have been popular around the world at harvest times, Thanksgiving was first celebrated in the United States at Plymouth Rock in February 21st, 1621 when a group of starving Pilgrims were saved by an Irish ship from Dublin with a large cargo of food, that rescued the Pilgrims in the winter of their first year colonizing the "New World" and ensuring the vitalization of the colonial project.
The first nationwide thanksgiving celebration in the United States of America happened when President George Washington proclaimed November 26th, 1789, "as a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God."
Today, we celebrate Thanksgiving as a National Holiday on the fourth Thursday of November with traditions such as parades, football games (Go Lions!), and feasts of oven roasted turkeys, but we always remember the true spirit of the holiday, to gather together as friends, family, and community and humbly give thanks for the good fortune we have been afforded.
At Churchill Estates we would like to sincerely thank the many residents and family members that we are given the opportunity to serve every day. We thank you for not only your business, but your friendship, and for your love, and for the chance to help make even the smallest positive contribution to your lives, as you have made enormous contributions to ours. For that, we are immensely thankful.
From our family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!
