Each week we will present a run down of highlights of what will be going on at Churchill Estates Retirement Community in the coming week. It was a rainy and windy weekend once again in Eugene, Oregon, but you won’t hear us complaining. The sun also made a brief appearance to add some contrast to the dark skies. The forecast for Eugene points to a week with periods of sunshine, before the rain returns on Saturday.
Was it ever a great weekend for the University of Oregon. The weekend started on Thursday night as the Oregon Volleyball team upset number 9 UCLA in Los Angeles, keeping their post season hopes alive, they will return to Matthew Knight for their remaining regular season games. Saturday the football team took on number 7 Stanford on the farm. In a back and forth affair the Ducks emerged victorious. A run-heavy offense led the Ducks as Vernon Adams only threw the ball 12 times, connecting on 10 of those attempts for 205 yards and two long touchdowns. The win keeps Oregon alive in the Pac 12 North as USC comes to town this weekend.
Sunday morning found the Oregon Women’s Basketball on the east coast at Chapel Hill taking on number 22 North Carolina. The Ducks used defensive pressure and timely baskets to stay close in the first half. Oregon ran their lead to 10 points midway through the fourth quarter and hunkered down and weathered a comeback by the Tar Heels, to hang on for a 79-77 upset. Lexi Bando led the Ducks in scoring with 18 points and Jillian Alleyne added 12 points and 13 rebounds. Lexi Peterson added 14 points, new-comer Kat Cooper added 12 points and freshman Maite Cazorla played very well in her first game in an Oregon uniform contributing nine points, nine assists and four steals. The big win starts out year two of the Kelly Graves era in Eugene on a very high note. The ladies return to Matthew Knight Arena this Thursday to play Hampton at 6 PM.
This week Junko is on vacation so our Exercise Fun class will be canceled today, Wednesday and Friday. We start off the week with a trip up to Valley West to play some bingo; we appreciate our relationship with Valley West and being able to include all of our residents and theirs in many different activities.
On Wednesday we will be going on our weekly grocery shopping trip, this week we will be going to Albertsons and Bi-Mart, we will be roaming the isles looking for some good snacks and drinks for the coming week. On Thursday we will be having communion in our family room. Friday we will end the week with our friend Gordon playing his guitar in our Residential Care lobby.
All in all it’s a great week to be at Churchill Estates Retirement Community, come join the fun, and Go Ducks!
