Each week we will present a run down of highlights of what will be going on at Churchill Estates Retirement Community in the coming week. It was an extremely smoky weekend here in Eugene, Oregon. Smoke from fires in Washington and Oregon descended on the Willamette Valley Saturday morning pushed by strong winds. Forecasters are calling for most of the week to be in the mid-eighties this week, followed by…. Wait for it… RAIN on Saturday and Sunday. We all know we could use a rainy day or ten here in the Pacific Northwest.
Fires have been ravaging the upper left side of the country for a couple weeks now. Washington and Idaho have been hit really hard with fire after fire and Oregon is close behind, dealing with her own fires as well. Weather watchers called this weekend the worst smoky air in the last 15 years, for more on this click here to read the article from the Register-Guard. We are hoping for that rain to come and put an end to these fires that are devastating so many homes and communities.
Today begins the last full week of August, which means another week closer to football. This Saturday the Oregon Football team will host “Fan Day 2015” at Autzen Stadium (More info here!). It’s a great time to get out and meet some of the players and coaches. Saturday will also mark only seven days to go until the Ducks lace them up against the Eastern Washington Eagles. There are lots of questions still unanswered for the Ducks as they head into their last week of fall camp. Look for a blog later this week breaking down position battles and some analysis to get you ready for the season.
This week we start off with a movie and popcorn in the Assisted Living, today we will be watching The King’s Speech. The movie follows the friendship between England’s Prince Albert who would become King George VI and his speech therapist Lionel Logue. Click here for a full summary!
Wednesday we will go on our weekly grocery-shopping trip, this week we will be going to Wal-Mart to get our groceries and what ever else we fancy for the next week. Friday features a packed Friday afternoon. It all kicks off at 1:00 PM when we load up the bus and vans and head off on a scenic drive to Oakridge. We will drive in and around the countryside before stopping at Dairy Queen and heading back to Churchill. At 2:30 we kick off our music hour with our friend Stan will be in our Residential Care lobby to play his accordion for our residents. Finishing up our music hour at 3:00 is Gordon playing his guitar in our Assisted Living.
All in all it’s a great week to be at Churchill Estates Retirement Community, come join the fun!
