This Week at Churchill Estates

Each week we will present a run down of highlights of what will be going on at Churchill Estates Retirement Community in the coming week. It was a beautiful weekend here in Eugene, Oregon. The temperature stayed in the mid 70’s with a slight breeze. This week we will stay in the mid 70’s until Thursday when the forecast calls for 80 degrees, the forecast calls for a chance of rain on Friday with a high of 66.  A much cooler weekend is ahead of us as fall makes its presence known.

There was lots of purple Friday night in Downtown Eugene as the Alzheimer’s planning committee hosted the second annual Paint the Town Purple event. Local shops, restaurants and bars had special items and deals on their menus and gave a portion of the proceeds to the Alzheimer’s Association. Live music was provided by Holler and the Hives and also by the Sugar Beets. The Oregon Duck and cheerleaders came by and hung out with all of the family, friends and loved ones of those with Alzheimer’s who came out to spread awareness and sign up for the Alzheimer’s walk which happens in October.

The Ducks returned to the win column with a 61-28 victory over Georgia State. Jeff Lockie made the start for the Ducks in place of injured starter Vernon Adams Jr. Lockie played well, but was upstaged by third string QB Taylor Allie who used his opportunity in the fourth quarter to break out for an 87 yard scamper to the end zone. Defensively the Ducks still have some tightening to do, but some progress was made by the young secondary. The Utes of Utah will be the next opponent, they will play the Ducks Saturday night at 5:45 PM on Fox Sports 1 (Comcast channel 408).

We get this week started with a trip up the hill to play Bingo at Valley West. It is a good way to get out for a little bit and see some ole friends and competitors for our residents. Wednesday we go on our weekly shopping trip, this week we will be roaming the isles of Walmart looking for some food, snacks and whatever else we can find. Thursday we will be hosting Clothing Connection in our multi-purpose room, it’s a fun time for the residents to go through and see what they can find.

Friday is a day the Chuckers have been waiting for. The fall Wii Bowling tournament will be at 1:00 at Solvang. The Chuckers look to improve their impressive record and bring yet another trophy back to our crowded trophy case here at Churchill. At 2:30 our Marketing Director John will be singing in the Residential Care Lobby, come down to hear some Elvis, some Frank Sinatra and lots of other good oldies!
